Our Coconut Butter contains only 100%, whole, raw coconut that is stone-ground until it achieves the perfect, silky-smooth, creamy consistancy. The result of this stone-grinding process is a gourmet spread with a delectable coconut flavor and an unbelievable aroma that melts in your mouth. Coconut butter is rich in beneficial nutrients, including minerals, fiber, and medium-chain fatty acids.
Coconut Butter Uses
Coconut Butter can be spread on breads, muffins, crepes, or fruit. It can be warmed to a liquid consistancy (similar to coconut oil) and drizzled on top of granolas, nuts or trail mixes, cereals, pop corn, or oatmeals. Coconut Butter can become your new go-to-glaze for cupcakes or baked goods. Stir it into ice creams or yogurts for a flavor that can't be beat- or just spoon it straight from the jar!
What is the difference between Coconut Butter and Coconut Oil?
As the health benefits of coconut become more widely recognized, so does the confusion surrounding coconut products. One source of confusion for some is the difference between coconut butter and coconut oil. Since both become solid below room temperature, and both can become liquified when gently warmed, it can seem that they may be one and the same.
Coconut Butter is produced from the meat of the coconut. The whole coconut is then ground, or pureed, into a spread referred to as coconut butter. We use the ancient method of stone-grinding to hand craft each batch of our Coconut Butter. Coconut butter also contains coconut oil. If you receive a jar of coconut butter in the cooler winter seasons, you may open it to find a layer of separated coconut oil on top- similar to a jar of nut butter. When coconut butter is warmed to a liquid state, it retains a bit of opaqueness and will be a creamy-white color.
Coconut Oil is only the oil, or fat, from the coconut. It is usually produced by grinding or pressing the coconut meat until coconut milk is produced. From there, the coconut oil is extracted from the waters in the coconut milk by various extraction methods. Coconut oil, like coconut butter, will solidify around room temperature, but can be warmed to a liquid state. When liquified, coconut oil is more translucent than coconut butter.
Like peanut butter is different than peanut oil, and an olive tapenade is different from an olive oil, so is coconut butter different than coconut oil. Coconut butter is a food into itself, ready to be enjoyed straight from the jar or to enhance a number of different foods. Coconut oil is great as a substitute for other fats in low temperature cooking and baking.
While Coconut Butter and Coconut Oil differ in their processing and methods for using, they do share the same nutritional benefits. Coconut Butter will have the nutrients and fiber present in coconut meat, but coconut's true magic - the healing properties that lead coconut trees to be called "The Tree of Life" - comes from coconut oil. And coconut butter will contain anywhere from 70 - 80% of this beneficial oil!
Our Coconut Butter comes from fresh, young coconuts from the Phillipines and is stone-ground and processed here in the United States.

Benefits of Raw Virgin Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contains absolutely no trans fats. Although many people mistakenly believe coconut oil is dangerous to health due to its saturated fat content, close to two-thirds of its saturated fat is made up of medium-chain fatty acids, also known as medium-chain triglycerides, which are actually health promoting and they are antimicrobial, easily digested for quick energy, and beneficial to the immune system.
The popular misconceptions about coconut oil can be traced to some decades-old flawed studies, some of which used hydrogenated (chemically altered, unnatural) coconut oils, and to misleading advertising campaigns generated by the edible oil industry. The industry instead promoted polyunsaturated fats (such as canola, soybean, safflower and corn), which easily go rancid when exposed to oxygen and produce harmful free-radicals in our bodies. Coconut oil was falsely accused of leading to coronary heart disease, a myth that has been refuted by a large body of research showing that consumption of natural coconut oil is beneficial to health, including cardiovascular health.
Traditional wisdom also supports the regular use of coconut oil. It has been used as a traditional food by the Polynesians since ancient times, and they have among the lowest rates of heart disease in the world.

- • Helps control diabetes and chronic fatigue

Lauric acid, known for its antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal functions, makes up about 50% of the fatty acid in coconut fat. In the body, it is converted to monolaurin, a powerful monoglyceride that destroys lipid-coated viruses (such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, and influenza) as well as pathogenic bacteria including helicobacter pylori and listeria monocytogenes.
Coconut oil can vary widely in both quality and effectiveness. Most commercial coconut oils are refined, bleached, and deodorized, and many are made from “copra,” or dried coconut meat. Some are even hydrogenated. Others that are called “cold-pressed” still are fermented or heated to remove water, and in the process they lose the natural vitamin E and tocopherols needed for stability and protection against rancidity.
Our coconut oil is a virgin, cold-pressed, vitamin E rich, “biologically pure” coconut oil that is identical to unextracted oil from coconuts. Our organic coconut oil is produced from fresh coconuts and extracted in a process that guarantees no heating or chemical treatment before, during, or after pressing. It is one of the purest natural oils of any kind, and retains the true characteristics and nutritional content of fresh coconut. The natural vitamin E, antioxidants, and fresh coconut “essence” are preserved.
To make coconut oil, fresh coconut meat is grated and expeller-pressed to produce coconut milk, which is then centrifuged to separate it into solid components, oil, and water with no heating, refining, bleaching, or deodorizing. To our knowledge, it is also the only certified organic virgin coconut oil that is produced under strict hygienic standards.
This premium-quality oil has a very light texture and all the flavor and aroma of fresh coconut. It is so light and delicious that you can literally eat it by the spoonful! Creamy, smooth, and sweet with a mild coconut taste, it blends well with other flavors, and can be used in a wide variety of recipes. It can also be applied externally to promote healthy skin and help prevent wrinkles.
Live Superfoods also offers our own high-quality, Raw Virgin Coconut Oil in both 16 oz and 32 oz jars.
